294 O'Connors Road, Pokolbin
Stepped in history, a treasure amongst views and vines, we are very relaxed whilst professional, giving customers a unique customer experience.
The Hanging Tree vineyard property consists of 60 undulating acres, eighteen acres of which are under four vine varieties: Chardonnay, Semillon, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. These vines are more than 15 years old, with our Shiraz vines the oldest at 45-50 years. This, coupled with the rich clay soil has contributed to the success of our award winning wines.
The Hanging Tree Cellar Door (once a cow shed) is decorated with antiques and vintiques and warmly welcomes all with its rustic charm. If you are lucky, you might be greeted at the front gate by our welcoming party, Vodka and Muscat – our residential golden Labradors!
Our vineyard is lovingly cared for and maintained by Michael Wright, one of the most experienced viticulturist in Hunter Valley. The land itself is surrounded by the Brokenback Mountain Range and the very foundations of our vineyard feature rich volcanic soil and red clay that ensure that our grapes are nurtured into maturity in the ideal conditions.
The Hunter Valley is not only renowned for its wine but has gained a reputation for producing some delectable Olives. At Hanging Tree, we have around 250 olive trees in our grove, where we grow Manzanillo, Leccino and Kalamata fruit. After hand-picking these olives in March/April, we sit them in brine for 9 months before individually marinating each jar with dried ingredients to some classic recipes and styles.
