5 Halls Road, Pokolbin
Like his ancestors, Kevin Sobels, along with his wife Margaret and son Jason, share the same love and dedication of the industry, operating their Hunter Valley winery, which proudly bears their family name.
The concept and design of the building was the brainchild of Kevin Sobels and with the help of his friend Graham Walker, built the main structure. Construction commenced in late September 1993 and was officially opened in late June 1994.
All the log timber used in the construction is white mahogany and was sourced from high in the mountains near Ellalong and the centre-piece, 9.5 metres tall, was planted more as a feature than main roof support. The entrance doors are encased with copper and brass, the aluminium cast framed windows are from an unknown church, the plate glass in all the windows and the tasting bar came from the River Oaks Golf Club in Sydney after it was refurbished a few years ago. The internal roof is lined with CSR Weathertex shingles screw fixed to the batons and each other.
The winery is open seven days a week. If the door is open or the lights are on, you and your friends are welcome to come in and taste our wines, in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The BBQ and picnic facilities are free to use, and if time permits, people can have a quick look and have a discussion about the processing procedures etc.
Champagne and Sparkling Burgundy is now being tiraged and stored at the winery. A new contract to supply the winery with their fruit has been signed with Martindale vineyards in the Upper Hunter. The quality and quantity of their grapes will allow us to expand our range and offer our wine to both retail and the export market.
OPENING HOURS: 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday. 9.30am to 5.00pm Saturday and Sunday
