JAMES HALLIDAY rating
Tamburlaine continues to push the boundaries of innovation in organic farming to create high-quality wine that best represents the 'terroir', where the wine is grown, naturally.
The results speak for themselves - in the vineyard and in the glass, with consumers and wine critics alike. The winery holds a red five-star rating in James Halliday's 2013 Australian Wine Companion (meaning an "outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity").
Tamburlaine was established in 1966 by Dr Lance Allen and was then purchased in 1985 by managing director and chief winemaker, Mark Davidson, and a group of friends and relatives. Since then it has undergone significant production expansion and business development - including a formal Environment Management System for the business, certified organic and biodynamic vineyards, significant export and domestic retail growth and now as Australia's first carbon neutral winemaker.
This pioneering vision has turned Tamburlaine into Australia's largest organic wine producer, and our aim is to make the best wines and improve the condition of our vineyards simultaneously.
- All our wines are certified organic by the BFA, and we have also integrated biodynamic methods into the organic management system in our vineyard in Orange.
- Tamburlaine is now the first certified carbon neutral winemaker in the country, and has adopted an Environment Management System, including strategies for water and solid-waste management, energy saving and environmental purchasing.
- We are also one of the premier wedding venues in Australia (voted best wedding reception venue in NSW and in the top 3 in Australia in 2013, by bridal couples voting in the Australian Bridal Industry Academy awards).
