AYRES AND GRACES Sacred Spaces The Convent of Mercy , 30 Queen Street , Singleton NSW 2330
Following on from their very popular tour in October 2018, the Brandenburg Ensemble will return in a different configuration to include the Baroque oboe and flute, recorder, viola da gamba and theorbo alongside the ubiquitous Baroque violin and viola. The ensemble will deliver an inspiring program of chamber music from the English and French Baroque on this wonderful combination of rare period instruments.
Eighteenth-century London was a bustling entrepreneurial centre with a cosmopolitan concert life and a growing market for domestic music-making in wealthy households. The musical richness of the city attracted many foreign musicians including George Frideric Handel.
The musical items from Paris and Versailles performed in this program are by contrast uniformly in the style of Jean-Baptiste Lully, the fashionable director of music at the Court of ‘Sun King’ Louis XIV of France.
The concert features heavenly trio sonatas, gorgeous pastoral folk tunes and intimate chamber music alongside stately works of grander scale.
