Craft brewing emerged out of a grassroots culture of home brewing to now be represented by over 400 brewers worth well over $700m pa & still growing at a rate of 10% pa.
Beer drinkers have been attracted to notions of beer being artisanal and "hand crafted", using quality ingredients. Not far behind is the phenomenal growth in cider worth over $300m & growing at a rate of 12% pa.
They are an important part of today's alcoholic beverages line-up & something you should be well versed in. And here in the Hunter region, it's a brewers mecca.
Our guest host is local beer king Corey Crooks renown craft beer innovator of Newcastle's Grain Store. Corey's passion for craft beer has been a life-long obsession & as a fifth generation publican, he has beer in his veins.
Crooks began his publican career at 22 & has managed many venues but perhaps is best know for rebranding the Albion Hotel in Wickham as the Albion Alehouse & introducing a rotating list of craft beers to the taps.
In 2012 he opened his own beer cafe & serves brews made only from wholly independent companies. The Grain Store won best regional beer cafe or wine bar at the NSW Restaurant and Catering Awards for Excellence in Sydney in 2016 & was voted Best Australian Regional Venue by "Beer & Breweries" magazine in 2017.
